How to copy and paste multiple items in order
What the paste queue is for
Normally your clipboard holds one thing. To move five values from one app to another you switch windows ten times. With the Universal Paste Queue you copy all five first, then paste them one after another.
It is useful for filling in forms, moving rows into a spreadsheet, pasting a name, email and address into separate fields, or collecting quotes and links while you research.
Turn on Universal Paste
Use any one of these:
- Open Settings → General and switch on Universal Paste.
- Click the Pastily menu bar or tray icon, choose Control and switch on Universal Paste Queue.
- In the Pastily popup, click the Universal Paste button.
On Mac, allow Pastily under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility the first time. Pastily needs this to paste into other apps for you.
Use the queue
- With Universal Paste on, copy each item as you normally would (Cmd+C or Ctrl+C). Each copy joins the queue.
- Click where the first item should go.
- Press Cmd+Shift+V on Mac, or Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows and Linux. The first item is pasted.
- Move to the next field and press the shortcut again. The next item is pasted, and so on, in the order you copied them.
The Pastily popup shows which item is Next. When the queue is empty there is nothing more to paste until you copy again.
Clear the queue
To start over, click Clear Queue in the popup, or choose Control → Clear Paste Queue from the menu bar or tray icon.
Change the paste queue shortcut
Open Settings → Shortcuts and record a new shortcut for the Universal Paste Queue. You can reset it to the default at any time. This is available from version 2.1.0.
Normal copy and paste still works
The queue uses its own shortcut. Cmd+V and Ctrl+V keep pasting the most recent thing you copied, exactly as before.
Common questions
Can I copy and paste multiple items at once?
Yes. With the Universal Paste Queue in Pastily you copy several items in a row, then paste them one by one in the same order by pressing Cmd+Shift+V on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows and Linux.
In what order are queued items pasted?
In the order you copied them: the first thing you copied is the first thing pasted.
The paste queue shortcut does nothing on my Mac. How do I fix it?
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure Pastily is in the list and switched on. macOS requires this before an app can paste into other apps.

Pastily keyboard shortcuts
Press Cmd+Shift+B on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+B on Windows and Linux to open Pastily from any app. Press Cmd+Shift+V or Ctrl+Shift+V to paste the next item in the Universal Paste Queue. Both shortcuts can be changed in Settings → Shortcuts.
Organise clipboard history with Spaces, pins and saved clips
Pastily sorts everything you copy into Spaces such as Text, Links, Code, Images and Colors automatically. Pin a clip to keep it at the top of your history, save it to find it under Saved, and create your own Spaces for things like code templates or support replies.
How to install Pastily on Mac
Download the Pastily .dmg from pastily.app, open it and drag Pastily into your Applications folder. One universal build works on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and it is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without security warnings.
