How to install Pastily on Mac

Updated

The short answerDownload the Pastily .dmg from pastily.app, open it and drag Pastily into your Applications folder. One universal build works on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and it is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without security warnings.

Install steps

  1. Go to pastily.app/#pricing and download the macOS build (pastily-mac-universal.dmg).
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
  3. Drag the Pastily icon into the Applications folder.
  4. Open Pastily from Applications or Spotlight.
  5. Open Settings → General → License, paste your licence key and activate it.

Is it safe to open?

Yes. Every macOS build of Pastily is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Gatekeeper checks the app when you first open it and lets it run without a warning.

Allow Pastily to paste for you (Universal Paste)

The Universal Paste Queue pastes clips into other apps on your behalf, so macOS asks you to allow it once:

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security, then Accessibility.
  3. Add Pastily to the list and switch it on.

There is also an Open button next to the Universal Paste switch in Pastily's Settings that takes you straight there. You only need this permission for the paste queue; clipboard history works without it.

Pastily and macOS Tahoe's built-in clipboard history

macOS 26 Tahoe added a basic clipboard history to Spotlight (press Cmd+Space, then Cmd+4). It keeps items for at most 7 days and cannot pin clips. Pastily works alongside it and adds a history of up to 2,000 clips, pinned clips, Spaces and a paste queue, and the same app on Windows and Linux.

Updating

From version 2.1.0, Pastily checks for new versions by itself. Choose Update from the menu bar icon and it installs the update and restarts. See the changelog for what is new.

Common questions

Does Pastily work on Apple silicon and Intel Macs?

Yes. The download is a universal build that runs natively on both Apple silicon (M-series) and Intel Macs.

Why does Pastily ask for Accessibility permission on Mac?

Only the Universal Paste Queue needs it, because it pastes clips into other apps for you. Clipboard history, search and Spaces work without the permission.

Does the Mac have a built-in clipboard manager?

macOS 26 Tahoe has a basic clipboard history in Spotlight that keeps items for at most 7 days and cannot pin them. Earlier macOS versions remember only the last thing you copied.
